Completion of the 12th Smart City Public Lecture

4 Feb 2014 Shanghai China, The 12th Smart City Public Lecture was held successfully at Shanghai Sciences Hall. Notable Doctor LI Jie, Team leader of Law Enforcement Team of Shanghai Food and Drug Administration shared with the public Smart City and Food Security covers three topics:

Current Situation of Food Safety, The Main Issues and Strategies on Food Safety, and The Requirements of Food Safety in Smart City Shanghai, bringing together 69 participants from  different industries.

Recently, successive food safety issues surface such as fast-growing chicken, milk powder, dead pork, illegal cooking oil, arising attentions from both the masses and government officials. At the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Central Government explicit to enhance the execution supervision power on food and medicines, to complete the supervision institute for food and medicine security, and to develop the most stringent supervision system..

Meanwhile, Shanghai municipal government takes actions on the impending issues, actions including severe criminal punishment, business license revoke, severe penalty, etc. The society also plays an active role in the complaint system. With the joint efforts of central government, local government, media and society, the food safety problems have been largely ameliorated in Shanghai.

 According to statistics, In 2014, 96.7% food reaches food safety quality standard. The Collective food positioning rate has been lowered to 0.53%. And Food Safety Knowledge Penetration Rate of the Public has been raised to 80.4%. Complaint reply rate has reached 100%.

In the future, Shanghai municipal government will adhere to the15 Key Strategies to promote the informatization of food safety management, accelerate the sharing of information about food safety permit, supervision and punishment, build a database for food safety facilitated by technologies including internet of things, RFID, and encourage the public to fight for the food safety in the form of enterprise self-discipline, consumer self-protection and social supervision.
